This year, we are partnering with the Courtyard by Marriott which is a 10-minute walk from the venue, and surrounded by several restaurants close by. King Bed rooms can fit up to three people (sofa bed included), and Double Bed rooms can fit up to four. Rooms for as low as $125/night, free cancellation up to 72hrs prior to day of check-in.

A new challenge awaits...

CHALLENGE OBJECTIVE: To create a social dance environment where dancers of all levels from all communities feel welcome. Dancers of all roles, all skill levels, and from all communities are encouraged to sign up!

HOW IT WORKS: Ambassadors will be assigned up to three 1-hour shifts during parties as taxi dancers for a chance to win one of our event pass prizes. The goal of a shift is to pay attention and put energy towards equalizing dance opportunities. This can look like noticing and asking for dances from people off to the side, dancing with beginners, and refraining from dancing with the friends you typically gravitate towards. Further instructions to be provided closer to the event to those who sign up. Be part of this great initiative to make our event even better! Prizes to be announced soon.

What does a "weekender hybrid" mean?

In past events, we've gotten feedback from our attendees that:

Fewer workshops seem to be more effective.
Day parties are a vibe.
Having opportunities to rest without getting dance FOMO enhanced their overall event experience.

For our RVAZM Anniversary Weekend, we wish to provide all 3. Upon mentioning this concept to our friends, some have called it a 'half marathon' and some have called it a 'weekender hybrid.'

What can I expect from this event?

Things are always subject to change, but our current plan is to have no more than 4 progressive workshops spread throughout the entire weekend, social dancing in the daytime, a dinner break (long enough for people to eat, rest, and freshen up), and more social dancing at night.

Are meals included?

Meals are not included in the full pass, but the venue as well as the main hotel are within walking distance from several food locations for your convenience.

Should I buy a pass based on my role at workshops, or socials?

The passes are meant to have a balanced leader & follower ratio for the socials, so please buy the pass that you expect to do more of during day and evening parties. You may buy a leader pass and take the workshops as a follower, or buy a follower pass and take the workshops as a leader, etc.

Can I transfer my pass?

Passes are non-refundable, but are transferable for a $10 fee up to 7 days prior to the event. The original owner of the pass must send an email to rvazoukmovement@gmail.com to begin the transfer process. Ticketing system fees are non-refundable.

Does Courtyard by Marriot have free parking?

Yes, parking is free for guests who are staying at the hotel.

Is there a shuttle service from the hotel to the venue?

Shuttle service is not available, but it is only a 10-minute walk each way.

Is the Thursday Pre-Party included in the Full Pass?

No, the Thursday pre-party is a separate purchase but it's only $5! We will be partnering up with Havana 59's Tropical Thursdays that night. Check out the "Event Updates" section above for details!

Will single day or social only passes be available?

Due to the "half marathon" style of the event, we do not anticipate offering single day or social only passes. Should things change, we'll be sure to make an announcement on Facebook.

Are there any volunteer opportunities?

We've been very lucky to have a team of people that help us run events like our RVAZM Anniversary, we currently don't have a need for more volunteers. Should things change, we'll be sure to make an announcement on Facebook but we will likely prioritize our local community members for such opportunities.

COVID-19 SAFETY RULES

Each person is responsible for evaluating the level of risk they are taking by attending events like the RVAZM Anniversary Weekend. Masks, vaccinations and testing are currently not required for this event, but are strongly encouraged for the community's safety. We will be sure to communicate any changes to this rule as soon as possible.

Do not come if you are feeling sick or have been in recent contact with someone that has been infected by covid. If you develop symptoms after attending this event, please notify the organizer immediately.

BEWARE OF SCAMMERS

In past events, we have caught Facebook posts on our event page from random people that did not buy passes to our event, claiming to sell. Please do not send money or buy passes from people you don't know or have not been verified as confirmed passholders by RVA Zouk Movement LLC.

In the event that someone posts on our Facebook event page to sell their pass, RVA Zouk Movement will review their information and comment on the same post as "Confirmed Passholder" if they are a legitimate seller.
